Hi PharmaDoc,

Thanks for the note. Your initial question addresses a raft of issues that have been discussed and debated here, there and everywhere for quite some time. The Senate probe that focused on Keller and others attempted to underscore that transparency can improve the research and development process.

As to the headline, it is factually correct – he has been controversial due to that study. The story made clear that a connection to the study and his retirement was uncertain because the university spokesman refused to respond to that particular question and Keller did not respond at all. Does that mean there was a connection, after all? No. Nonetheless, there has been interest in how, if at all, Brown and other universities would handle calls to disassociate themselves from the study, which is why this is discussed in the story.

Headlines are not a science or an art, but there is nothing inaccurate about the headline.

Hope this helps,
ed
